Congratulations to Finley School District’s 2024 Crystal Apple Award Winner, Oscar Carrasco! Each year, the Crystal Apple Awards recognize nine outstanding educators from local public school districts with a crystal apple, a $1,000 check, and gifts from sponsors. Mr. Carrasco was honored at the Crystal Apple Awards Ceremony on March 7, 2024.
Mr. Carrasco is a Spanish and English Language Learners (ELL) teacher at River View High School for the past 12 years. His nominators say he shares his enthusiasm for language and teaching with his students and co-workers alike. In his nomination letter, Principal Chris Davis wrote, “Oscar really shines in his creative and engaging classroom…[H]e has one of our most requested electives and is a draw for all of our students.”
“I was starting my 2nd year as a high school principal in 2012 when Oscar Carrasco applied to be our Spanish teacher…I quickly realized Oscar was fulfilling his calling by teaching Spanish to students in Finley,” says Superintendent Bryan Long. “From classroom sing-a-longs to culture-related lunches and routine use of vocabulary, students went to his classroom to learn.”
