(March 23, 7:45 PM Update:)

Dear Families of Students with 504 Plans and/or in Special Education:

The health, safety, and education of our students is of utmost importance, and we know everyone is challenged with how best to navigate through this unprecedented time. The impact is great for all, both personally and professionally. This message is intended to provide you with an update of where we are thus far in special education.

Throughout the acceleration of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been brainstorming alternatives for learning opportunities. Finley's administration team and staff members have been meeting to identify and address the short- and long-term needs for staff and students. Teams are meeting this week to collaborate and think creatively about how to provide you with tools, support, and at-home learning opportunities. Starting today, meals are being delivered at bus stops following the district’s regular two-hour delay schedule. Packets with learning opportunities will be assembled and delivered at the bus stops every Friday. Additionally, learning opportunities will be posted on the district website here.

If you have an upcoming IEP or evaluation meeting, the case manager will be contacting you about the option to hold the meeting remotely. Options include Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and/or other conference call formats. If you prefer to meet in person, the case manager will schedule the meeting upon return.

Please know we are here for you and will continue to serve and support as best we can. Please continue to watch our district’s COVID-19 webpage for updates at www.finleysd.org/community/COVID-19.

Respectfully,

Amy McLaughlin,
Director of Special Programs
