Parents' Right to Be Informed

Parents' Right to Be Informed

Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed into law on December 10, 2015, parents and guardians have important rights related to their child’s education. ESSA strengthens the commitment to educational excellence, equity, and transparency, ensuring that families have the information they need to be active partners in their child’s learning.

As part of ESSA, our school district is required to provide parents and guardians with the following information:

  • Individual Report Cards: Report cards and other documents that keep parents informed about their child’s academic progress.

  • Teacher and Paraprofessional Qualifications: Information about the qualifications and credentials of the teachers and paraprofessionals who are instructing your child.

  • Teacher Certification Status: Notification if a teacher working with your child holds limited state certification or licensure.

  • State and Local Assessments: Details about the assessments used to measure student progress, including state and district-level testing.

  • Assessment Participation Policies: Information about testing policies and your child’s participation in state or local assessments.

For more details, you can access our Parents’ Right to Be Informed document here (PDF) | Spanish (PDF). If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Rene Cooper by email or at (509) 586-3217.

We are committed to keeping families informed and involved in their child’s education. Your partnership is essential to the success of our students.
