Originally, the mission of SADD was to help young people say "No" to drinking and driving. Today, that mission has expanded. Students have said that positive peer pressure, role models, and other strategies can help them say "No" to more than drinking and driving. That is why SADD has become a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing underage drinking and drug use by focusing attention on the potentially life threatening consequences of destructive decisions involving issues such as not wearing a safety belt, tobacco use, violence, sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy and suicide.
River View High School's SADD chapter's main focus has been on showing students how to have fun without the use of drugs and alcohol. We have been a part of RVHS for over six years. The activities we have put on are: hockey nights, ski trips both water and snow, and theme drug free dance nights. We try to do activities that will show our student body how to have fun without drugs and alcohol before major holidays or school events. We actively support our Every 15 Minutes program that is displayed to our Junior and Senior student body every 2 years.
YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD
The Youth Advisory Board is made up of 2 representative from each SHOUT club in the Tri Cities. This group of students come together monthly to collectively guide the youth tobacco prevention activities in Benton-Franklin Counties. This group also takes on one community policy issue around tobacco each year and work to change that policy for a healthier community.
