Finley School District works to ensure that each homeless child or youth has equal access to the same free appropriate public education as other children and youth in the district.

When is a child or youth considered homeless?

A child or youth is considered homeless when he/she lacks a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime resdence.
This includes:
  • Shared housing or doubled-up
  • Motels, hotels, campgrounds, or other locations
    due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations
  • Emergency or transitional shelter
  • Awaiting foster care or in temporary placement

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act

The purpose of the McKinney-Vento Act is to remove barriers to education for homeless/transitional students and provide educational support and stability.
