Special services routes and schedules shall be established for the best welfare of all students with disabilities. Students with special needs shall receive curb-to-curb service whenever safely possible. Special route buses have a schedule to maintain in order to get the students to school on time. Students must be dressed and waiting in front of their home for the bus; buses cannot wait beyond regular scheduled stop time.
Bus Stop Location – Once transportation arrangements have been made, a school official will notify parents of the location and scheduled bus stop time for their child. If, on occasion, the parents wish their child to be left at a stop other than the child's authorized stop(s), they shall present a signed request to the school office. The school office will complete a bus pass form to be presented to the bus driver. Bus passes can be issued only for addresses that exist on one of the special bus routes; the bus cannot deviate from its assigned route to accommodate a bus pass. Except in an emergency, parents should not request a change in the stop.Parents are responsible for placing their child on the bus and must be at the bus stop at the close of each day to receive their child. The bus driver must see a parent/guardian before the student can be released. If no parent/guardian is at the bus stop, the child shall be returned to the school and the parents shall be notified. A written authorization signed by the parent or school official must be given to the bus driver in order to release the student to anyone other than the designated parent or guardian.
As bus schedules may vary a few minutes, each student should be ready five minutes before the scheduled time of bus arrival. The driver is not allowed to wait beyond the time regularly scheduled for the stop. If the bus schedule is seriously delayed, parents will be notified.
Absences - Parents and guardians shall notify the school office and the transportation department when they expect their child to be absent and again when the child is to return after an absence.
Changes of Address – Change of address information shall be directed to the school office. The Transportation Department makes every effort to offer transportation immediately upon request; however, most often a change in service requires 24 to 48 hours notice. In extreme cases, transportation may require up to a week depending on the location of the new stop. Parents are responsible to transport their child until transportation arrangements can be made.
