School buses are to be used solely for the purpose of transporting enrolled students to and from school and school activities; parents, siblings, or other individuals cannot ride on a home-to-school route. Students must ride their assigned bus unless prior permission has been granted through the school office. The student must have a note from the school to board any bus other than their assigned bus.
Establishing Transportation
In order to establish transportation, parents must contact the school office. Once the school notifies the Transportation Department, in most cases it takes 24 to 48 hours to begin bus service for any new student/address not on an existing bus route. This allows sufficient time to evaluate the safety of the stop and revise bus stop times. Transportation cannot be provided to any student until notice has been received from the school.
Change of Bus Service Address
To make a change to bus service, the parent/guardian must notify the school and the transportation department. Only when a student has been reassigned to a specific stop by the Transportation Supervisor can the driver legally transport that student.
Five Minute Rule
All students are to be at their assigned stop five minutes prior to the designated pick up time to ensure that they will be ready to board when the bus arrives. The bus driver has a schedule to maintain and cannot wait for students who are late. In the event the bus is running ahead of schedule, the driver will wait until the designated stop time before leaving without a student.
Servicing Private Roads or Driveways
Buses cannot travel down a private road, driveway or parking lot to pick up a student unless the bus needs to turn around and go back the direction it came.
Bus Passes
A student may not ride home with a friend who is on a bus route unless a school bus pass has been issued—notes to the bus driver or verbal requests are not acceptable. Students need a bus pass from the school if they need to get off or on at a bus stop other than their assigned stop. A bus pass can be issued only to a stop that is on an existing bus route.
Kindergarten or Preschool Students
For the safety of kindergarteners and preschoolers on all routes, the driver must see a parent/guardian before allowing the student to get off the bus. If the parent/guardian is not present to accept the student, the student must remain on the bus for the duration of the route at which time the student will be returned to the school. Please help us maintain safety and efficiency by being on time at the bus stop.
Cars in Bus Loading Zones
Washington State law prohibits private vehicles from being in or around the school bus loading zone at school for a period of 20 minutes prior to the school start time and 15 minutes after the school dismissal time. Private vehicles are not allowed to pass a school bus in the school bus loading zone at any time. Help us keep your student(s) safe by staying out of the school bus loading zones.
Articles Left on the Bus
We encourage parents/guardians to make some form of identification on all personal items their student brings on the bus. Although every effort is made to see that any item left on the bus is returned to the rightful owner, often times no one claims the item, and there is no way to identify to whom the item belongs. Any item left unclaimed for a period of time is taken to transportation office. Please feel free to call the transportation office if your child thinks they may have left something on a bus.
