Teachers at Finley Middle School had a full agenda on Wednesday, October 12th. The early-release Wednesday time was spent covering several topics, including how to help struggling students, steps to take for the school’s Corrective Action Plan (as part of AYP), and a brief presentation by Superintendent Hahn.
After making plans for upcoming PLC days, the middle school teachers began discussing ways they could support one another in helping students who are struggling in school. The end goal is for every student to be successful in school; therefore, teachers must collaborate with one another to provide consistent methods in each of the struggling student’s classes. Teachers brainstormed several strategies and scheduled time to develop a complete plan that will identify which students are struggling, what has already been done for these students, and what the next steps should be.
Afterwards, Finley Superintendent Lance Hahn joined his staff at the middle school to discuss some district items. The first topic on the agenda was district finances and enrollment. While current student enrollment in Finley schools is up from last year, the budget is still tight due to current legislation. Hahn shared figures and updates with staff and reminded teachers that while the district continues to “tighten its belt,” Finley will do everything possible to provide its teachers with the resources and support they need. Despite the threat of cuts from the legislature, Finley School District continues to focus on offering quality programs to its students.
Following Hahn’s presentation, teachers broke into subject area teams for the remainder of the PLC time. Fall schedules are busy with the end of quarter coming on October 28th, and student conferences November 9th and 10th.
